Traveling to Kogi State

Abuja International Airport serves as a gateway for air travellers into the state. Also, because of the centralised location, it is easily accessed by roads from all across the country. There are shuttle buses that can transport you straight to Kabba. Other travellers might have to get to the state capital, Lokoja first, before connecting to Kabba.tse.

Kogi is a state in the central region of Nigeria. It is popularly called the Confluence State. Its capital is Lokoja, which is the first administrative capital of modern-day Nigeria.

Though having has 21 local government areas, the state shares borders with ten other states; Federal Capital Territory (Nigeria) – to the north; Nasarawa State – to the northeast; Benue State – to the east; Enugu State – to the south-east; Anambra State – to the south Edo State – to the south-west; Ondo State – to the west; Ekiti State – to the west; Kwara State – to the west; Niger State – to the north.

People and Culture
The main ethnic groups in the state are Igala, Ebira, and Okun.
You will also find a number of the members of the three largest ethnic groups of the country; Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba—due to the administrative position of Lokoja in colonial Nigeria.

Geography and Climate
The state has two distinct seasons; dry season, which lasts from November to February and rain season that lasts from March to October. Kogi State has an average maximum temperature of 33.2 degrees Celsius and an average minimum of 22.8 degrees Celsius. Lokoja, the state capital is generally hot throughout the year. The vegetation of the state consists of mixed leguminous (guinea) woodland to forest savannah and long stretches of tropical forest in the Western and Southern belt of the state.

Notable Places
Important towns and cities include Lokoja, Kabba, Okene, Idah, Koton-karfe, Dekina and Ayingba. Tourist attractions in Kogi State include the colonial relics (such as Lord Lugard House), the confluence of Rivers Niger and Benue, Ogidi (An African town with formations of Igneous Rock mountains and a traditional art & craft industry) and natural land features.
The universities in the state are Kogi State University and Salem University, Lokoja..

Kogi is popularly called the Confluence State because the confluence of River Niger and River Benue is at its capital.
