Cross River is a state in South-South Nigeria. Its capital is Calabar, and its name is derived from the Cross River (Oyono), which passes through the state. It shares boundaries with Benue State to the north, Ebonyi and Abia States to the west, to the east by Cameroon Republic and to the south by Akwa-Ibom and the Atlantic Ocean. Cross River consists of 18 local government areas.

People and Culture
Cross River State is composed of several ethnic groups; the Efik, the Ejagham, Yakurr, Bette, Yala, Igede, Ukelle and the Bekwarra. The Efik language is widely spoken in Cross River State. The Ejagham language is also a widely spoken language in the state. The people of Cross River engage in various economic activities such as subsistence agriculture, urban commerce and transport business. 

Geography and Climate
The average temperature is 30°C except on the Obudu Plateau, where the climate is 
Cross River State belongs to the tropical climatic belt; with the rainy and dry season.subtemperate, with temperatures of 15°C – 23°C. The vegetation ranges from mangrove swamps, through the rainforest, to the derived savannah.

The state is blessed with numerous historical and natural site which include; Cross River National Park, The Obong Palace, The Kwa falls, Ikom Monoliths, Agbokim Waterfalls.
Higher institutions in the state include the University of Calabar and Cross River State University of Technology located in Calabar.

Interesting Fact
Cross River State host the largest carnival in Africa; the Calabar Christmas carnival.
