Traveling to Anambra State
The The NYSC camp is located at; NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Progressive Senior Secondary School, Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State.
The closest airport serving the state is Sam Mbakwe Airport in Owerri, Imo state. The state is accessible by road from all parts of the country. Most buses will get to Onitsha first, so prospective corps members travelling by road should travel to Onitsha, or the state capital. They can then, travel to the orientation camp from there.

Anambra is a state in southeastern Nigeria; its capital is Awka. Onitsha is one of its commercial cities as well as Nnewi. The state is bounded by Delta State to the west, Imo State and Rivers State to the south, Enugu State to the east and Kogi State to the north. It consists of 21 local government areas.
Though Agriculture plays an important role in the state’s economy, of equal importance are manufacturing, commerce and trade.
People and Culture
The indigenous ethnic groups in Anambra state are the Igbos and a small population of Igala. The state’s local population is largely agrarian; yams, taro, oil palm products, rice, maize, cassava, and citrus fruits are the principal crops grown in Anambra.
The State is also highly industrialised: industries include textile manufacturing, soft-drink bottling, brewing, and furniture manufacture. The people are also known for their metalworking and wood carving.
Geography and Climate
Anambra enjoys a tropical climate. There are two distinct seasons: the rainy and dry season. The average temperature in the state is 25.9°C
The soil is almost 100% arable. The mineral resources in the state include lead, zinc, lignite, petroleum and natural gas.
Notable Places
The major tourists’ attraction in the state includes; Agulu crocodile lake, Ogbunike caves, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and the Ugbo Ukwu museum known for its bronze artefacts.
The major higher institutions of learning in the state are Nnamdi Azikwe University in Akwa; Anambra state university; and the privately-owned Madonna University at Okija.
Economic Opportunities
Anambra state has what is arguably the argest market in Africa – Onitsha, and is home to the Onitsha River Port. It has a natural Gas and Crude Oil deposits; 10 trillion cubic feet of untapped gas. It has an international Airport which serves as a key logistics hub for other states. It is the home of the Nnewi Automotive cluster, the second most densely populated State, and one of the highest GDP per capita in Nigeria. Its tourist sites include the Agulu Lake crocodiles and Ogbunike Caves.
Interesting Fact
Anambra got its name from ‘Oma Mbala’—its name is an anglicised version of the original ‘Oma Mbala’, the native name of the Anambra River. The foremost author, Chinua Achebe, was from Anambra.
