Taraba state is located in the north-eastern geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Its capital is Jalingo. The State was created out of the defunct Gongola State in 1991 and has 16 local governments.
Taraba is bordered on the north by Bauchi and Gombe states, on the east by Adamawa state, on the south by the Republic of Cameroon, and on the west by Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau states.
People and Culture
Taraba is highly heterogeneous with close to eighty indigenous ethnic groups speaking different languages. Some of the major ethnic groups include Fulani, Mumuye, Jukun, Jango, Kuteb, Chamba and Mambilla.
The major occupation of the people of Taraba state is agriculture, and other economic activities like fishing, pottery, cloth weaving, dyeing, mat making, woodcarving, embroidery and blacksmithing.ng.
Geography and Climate
Taraba State enjoys a tropical climate; the wet season lasts, on the average, from April to October; the wettest months are August and September. The dry season lasts from November to March; the driest months are December and January with relative humidity dropping to about 15%. Mean annual temperature around Jalingo is about 28°C with maximum temperatures varying between 30°C and 39.4°C.
