Travelling to Ekiti State
The permanent NYSC orientation camp is located at Ise-orun, Emure Ekiti. Ekiti is mostly accessible by road. It is bordered on the south by Ondo state, on the north by Kwara state and on the east by Kogi state.
Travellers could travel by air to the Border States (airports in Ilorin, Kwara state and Ondo state) and travel down by road to Ekiti. Most state capitals have shuttle buses that travel straight to Ado-Ekiti, the capital.

Ekiti is a state in Southwest Nigeria. One of the last few states to be created, it was carved out of Ondo state in 1996. Ondo state borders Ekiti state to the north, Kogi State to the northeast, Edo State to the east, Delta State to the southeast, Ogun State to the southwest, and Osun State to the northwest. It consists of 16 local government areas. The state is mainly Yoruba speaking.
People and Culture
The people are mainly Yorubas—their dialect of Yoruba is called Yoruba Ekiti. Conservative in nature, the state is known for valuing education.
One of the main foods to enjoy is Pounded yam ‘Iyan’ with Egusi and bush meat.
Geography and Climate
Ekiti sprawls rugged mountainous features and undulating hills. The State enjoys a mostly tropical climate — rainy season (April – October) and dry season (November to March).
The state is largely agrarian—Agriculture employs 75% of the state working population. The state is one of the largest producers of Rice, Kolanut, oil palm, and cocoa; with produce like cassava, maize, yam, and plantain and citrus fruits.
The state is endowed with abundant mineral deposits of Clay, Kaolin, Columbite, Cassiterite, Granite, Charcoalnite and Bauxite.
Notable Places
One of the state’s most fascinating destinations is Ikogosi warm spring—known for its warm and cold springs that confluence whilst retaining their individual temperature. Other attractions include; Ero Dam, Arinta Waterfall, and Fajuyi Memorial Park. The state also has cultural carnivals like Iwemo and Udiroko in Ado-Ekiti; Ogun, Ijesu etc. Prominent institutions of higher learning in the state are Ekiti State University (EKSU), the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, and Afe Babalola University, a privately-owned institution.

Ekiti state is said to have produced the highest number of professors In Nigeria.
