More on Borno
Borno state is a state in north-eastern Nigeria. Its capital is Maiduguri. Borno borders the Republic of Niger to the north, Lake Chad and the Republic of Chad to the northeast and Cameroon to the east; on the south and west it borders Adamawa, Gombe, and Yobe states. Borno consists of 27 local government areas.
People and Culture
The Kanuri are the dominant ethnic group, but the area also contains clusters of other ethnicities; such as Lamang, Babur/Bura and Marghi.
The people are farmers; they grow sorghum, millet, peanuts, onions, maize, sesame, acha (“hungry rice”), cotton, and indigo. They are, however, predominantly cattle herders. The people around Lake Chad engage in some fishing.

The vegetation in Borno state is mainly of the Sudan savannah type, because of its subtropical climate. It is common to find acacia (a source of gum arabic), baobab, locust bean, Shea butter, dum palm, and kapok trees. There is a region of Sahel savannah with, mostly thorn scrub.
Prominent physical features include the Bornu Plains, the volcanic Biu Plateau.
